SKINNER SISTERS

Skinner Sisters is a retail and wholesale business specializing in embroidery charts and books reflecting our interest in historic embroidery. I do have sisters although they are not active in the day-to-day affairs of Skinner Sisters.  Billie is a massage therapist who lives in Tucson and Earlene is a telecommunications manager.  Our business was named Skinner Sisters as a tribute to our great grand father and his brother who came to Downs, Kansas after the Civil War bringing with them several wagons of merchandise to open their drygoods and grocery business known as Skinner Brothers.  Amongst the goods they offered were fabrics, fibers, lace and notions for fancywork and sewing.

NEWS FROM THE EDITOR'S WORKSTATION
At last, after a move across country from Southern California to Tennessee, retirement from my day job, major illness followed by major surgery, I'm once more updating this site and our catalog.

Although the site is being moved to a new server, we should have no interruption in service and the Little Lessons In Needlework, the Needlework Tour information, my teaching schedule and catalog are moving right along to the new server.

Past issues of the e-zine Stitch On Line will be moved and hopefully I will complete one more issue for the set.  I don't anticipate any more issues of this sort of publication as it was created before the era of weblogs.  You can now follow needlework news through my eyes on my blog The Embroideress.  I've found blogging more immediate.  If affords a more nimble and versatile way to communicate with folks in cyberspace.  Blogging also allows for interchange through comments which are always welcome.

NEW DESIGNS

We have launched two new series of books.  One based on charts from early design books from 16th/17th century Europe and a series of books reproducing Victorian pattern books by publishers including Sajou, Alexandre, etc.  You will find these books in the blackwork and alphabets sections of our catalog.

Maybe I'll see you at an event this year.  I hope you enjoy exploring our website.
