Have you been to London and wished you had more time to study needlework? Have you always wanted to see the needlework treasures illustrated in your favorite needlework books? Are you absolutely addicted to stash enhancement? Then we have an adventure planned for you.
Linn Skinner, an embroidery historian, teacher and designer and Libby Streuli, her designer chum and professional photographer are absolutely in love with London. They both visit London often and are eager to show you "their London" --- the London not all tourists get to see.
This is a tour that is limited to fourteen stitchers but any number of non-stitching companions are welcome to accompany us. Couples find this tour very suited to their needs as there is plenty of needlework to suit the stitcher and an opportunity for the non-stitcher to explore on their own, meeting in the evening for dinner, theater, or whatever.
Why such a small group? This is a study group, not a sightseeing group. There are other excellent needlework tours that will take you to manor houses and collections outside the London area. Ask and we'll be glad to recommend one if that's your cuppa .
Although there will be opportunities to go sightseeing, that's not our main purpose. In 2007 Libby will be offering an optional two-day sightseeing adventure for those who want to arrive a few days before the official tour begins and Linn will take interested participants on a special exploration of some of London's world-class research libraries during the same two day period. You should plan on arriving in London on Thursday October 4, 2007 if you want to participate in these activities.
We will be immersing ourselves in the largest textile collection in the world (at the Victoria & Albert Museum) and running riot at the largest stitching show in the world (hundreds of vendors and designers). Is that enough?????
This tour is all about freedom. Don't want to participate in some planned activity? Fine by us--have an adventure of your own. We do ask that you let us know where you're going and when you'll be back.
We stay at the Byron Hotel in a quiet street off the busy Queensway Highstreet . This is a neighborhood with heaps of small shops, a real (albeit modest sized) shopping mall, pubs, bakeries, take-away opportunities, a local laundramat, a post office for posting all those purchases home, handy internet cafes for staying in touch with those at home and even a local casino. Libby and I are eager to make this a special trip for all who join us. We enjoyed our our first five tours so much we'd like to do it (as any Teletubbie would warble) "again, again, again" and many of our participants are planning on adventuring with us for the sixth time.
Take a look at the activities we've planned, the costs of the trip and details then feel free to ask any questions before booking. This is an active tour and we will be walking quite a bit. There will be steps involved in using public transport so you need to take that into consideration. There is an option of taking taxis (at the participant's expense) to group events if public transport is not an option for you.
When you have booked your travel and made your deposit for the trip, we will subscribe you to a discussion group for helpful links, and an online meeting with your fellow group members and alumni of London with Linn and Libby.
See you in October….
LINN AND LIBBY
