I have pondered for some time trying to think of the best way to make interesting out-of-copyright material of interest to needleworkers available for purchase.
I'm all for saving our resources (trees, paper, ink, fuel) when it comes to delivery of information. This section contains articles, book excerpts and patterns from my library. The files are formatted using Adobe Acrobat which creates PDF files. To read the files you will need to download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader if you do not have it on your computer. You can do this by visiting the Adobe website.
Presently we offer three groups of files for download --- The Connoisseur Magazine articles about costume, needlework, lace and textiles in general; 19th century stamping patterns from Standard Fashion Company for redwork, whitework and other surface embroidery uses; and Jenny Brooks Co. cross-stitch motifs for early 20th century samplers.
Each group of files has a complimentary sample file and other articles/patterns which may be purchased using our shopping cart and paying via PayPal using your PayPal account funds or any major credit card. Once payment has cleared our PayPal account, you will be sent a password via e-mail so you may access the purchased article or pattern..
You may download the article or pattern to your computer and print a copy for your personal use. You may not post the files or images to any website or internet group. You may not make a copy for any other person--whether that copy is digital, paper or duplicated in any other media. Although the articles are in the public domain, I assert a right to the facsimile copy you will download. By opening a file and saving it to your computer, you affirm your agreement to these terms. We have purposely priced these downloads at a minimal cost so that it would be a much better idea to simply purchase another copy for a friend.
If your web browser compresses images you may find the full-sized images less than satisfactory and you will need to enlarge them. Acrobat files are best printed by specifying "Shrink oversized pages to paper size and Expand small pages to paper size."
I hope you find these articles useful in your study of needlework and other decorative arts.
